ALENIA NORTH AMERICA DELIVERS FOURTH C-27/G.222 AIRCRAFT TO THE U.S. AIR FORCE FOR THE AFGHANISTAN NATIONAL ARMY AIR CORPS: AIRCRAFT WILL REMAIN AT ALENIA’S CAPODICHINO FACILITY FOR TRAINING

Capodichino (Naples), Italy – 22 February 2010 – Alenia North America, a subsidiary of Alenia
Aeronautica and a part of the Finmeccanica Group, delivered the fourth Afghanistan National Army
Air Corps (ANAAC) C-27/G.222 aircraft to the United States Air Force. This is the fourth of 18
C-27/G.222 aircraft ordered by the United States Air Force to be delivered at Alenia’s Capodichino
facility near Naples, Italy.
The first three C-27/G.222 aircraft have been deployed to Afghanistan and are flying with the
Combined Air Power Transition Force (CAPTF) in Kabul, Afghanistan.
This fourth aircraft will remain in Capodichino and is currently being used for training.
As part of the program, training for the C-27/G.222 aircrew and maintenance for the U.S. Air Force
Advisors is being carried out by Alenia at Capodichino. The training courses for pilots, loadmasters,
crew chiefs, and maintenance personnel last between 15 and 40 days, depending on the duties. The
training includes classroom academics, practical training, and flight training. Once trained, the U.S.
Air Force Air Advisors will provide similar training in Afghanistan to the ANAAC.
About the C-27/G.222 ANAAC Program
In 2008, Alenia North America was awarded a contract by the United States Air Force to supply 18
refurbished C-27/G.222 aircraft for the Afghanistan National Army Air Corps (ANAAC). The 18
refurbished aircraft will be used by the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. They
will be transferred by the Combined Air Power Transition Force in Kabul to the reconstructed ANAAC.
The C-27/G.222 will serve as the back bone of the ANAAC and aid significantly through expanding its
capability to provide humanitarian aid and security to the Afghan population throughout the country.
Alenia North America, as prime contractor, is responsible for program management while the aircraft
are being refurbished and modernized by its parent company Alenia Aeronautica in its Capodichino
facility near Naples, Italy. Logistical support in Afghanistan will be carried out by L-3 Vertex
